This clear glass platter is a vintage German-designed cake or serving tray by the brand Bel Mondo (Becker Design).
It is an elongated, oval-shaped platter crafted from thick, transparent glass with slightly raised edges. The base features a detailed, moulded-relief illustration depicting couples seated at a Parisian-style street cafe terrace. The word "CAFE" is prominently embossed in stylized lettering at the top under a cafe awning. The relief scene includes patio tables, chairs, patrons, a streetlamp, and architectural arches.
The platter was manufactured under the Bel Mondo brand name, which was a specific decorative art glass line created by Becker Design in West Germany during the 1970s and 1980s. Becker Design operated primarily as a design house and distributor of high-end, contemporary home accessories. They were well-known for their heavy, textured structural glassware, such as chunk-glass tea light warmers, brutalist ice-glass trivets, and relief-moulded serving ware. While marketed under the Bel Mondo Glasdesign brand label, the actual physical casting and manufacturing of the glass items were contracted to historic West German glass foundries. Most notably, production was handled by Georgshütte, a respected German glassworks company famed for industrial-strength, highly durable, and artistically moulded structural crystal glass.
