The Royal Vale trade name was originally used by H.J. Colclough, a china manufacturer at the Vale Works in Longton, Stoke-On-Trent. In 1913 King George IV and Queen Mary visited the Vale Works and the Company received a royal license, adopting the Royal Vale Name. In 1937 H.J. Colclough combined with Thomas Morris and Osborne China Co., becoming Colclough China Ltd. In 1944 Booths China Ltd. acquired Colclough and the two merged in 1948 becoming Booths & Colclough Ltd. In 1953 The Lawley Group (owners of Ridgway and Adderley Ltd.) acquired control of Booths & Colclough Ltd. and in 1955 the name was changed to Ridgway Potteries Ltd.
This item is a fine porcelain squared tea plate manufactured under the Royal Vale trade name during the 1960’s and decorated in Royal Vale’s pattern no. 7355. The pattern has a soft blue colour in the center of the tea plate, which is surrounded by a beautiful gold garland pattern. The rim of the tea plate is scalloped and decorated with gold trim. It will make a lovely addition to any tea drinkers’ collection, or a wonderful display piece.
The tea plate is stamped underneath Royal Vale Bone China Made in England.
There are no cracks, chips, crazing, or repairs. There is slight fading on the gold trim of the item that is consistent with age. The back stamp places this as having been made in 1962. It is in good vintage condition.
