Grindley was founded in 1880 by William Harry Grindley and Mr Turner at Newfield Pottery. In 1891 the company moved to the Woodfield Pottery in Tunstall and in 1908 The Grindley Hotel Ware Co. was set up. In 1960 Alfred Clough Ltd purchased Grindley and in 1978 the firm was renamed Grindley Of Stoke Ceramics Ltd. In 1982 the firm ws taken over by Federated Potteries Co. Ltd. but in 1988 W.H. Grindley re-purchased the company although it went into receivership in 1991 and was taken over by Woodlands Pottery.

This item is a set of six large soup bowls manufactured by Grindley between 1936 and 1954. The bowls have each been decorated with Grindley’s pattern GRI169 which displays flowers and leaves in green, yellow and orange on green and grey lines. Eacj bowl has a scalloped and embossed rim with silver trim.

The bowls are stamped underneath Creampetal Grindley England.

One bowl has a chip on the rim (please see pictures) and fading of the silver trim on the rims have occurred. Aside from this the set is in very good usable condition.
