Origin & History
Anton Riemerschmid is a legendary Bavarian brand founded in Munich in 1835. For generations, the distillery operated on the city's Praterinsel Island along the Isar River.
Escorial is a high-proof herbal liqueur first created by Robert Riemerschmid in 1910. While the ultra-strong green variant (Escorial Grün, 56% ABV) is more common today, this bottle contained the rarer Escorial Gelb (Yellow) version, which sat at 42% ABV. The yellow variant was phased out in the 1960s to make way for the 56% green version. Finding one marked Escorial Gelb with its original yellow label still intact adds unique historical appeal for niche alcohol history collectors.
These souvenir map decanters were widely produced during the 1960s as collectible marketing items. Production of the yellow variant was discontinued in the later half of the 20th century, making intact bottles with their original labels highly collectible among vintage barware enthusiasts.
Condition Considerations
The porcelain glaze and the front map graphic look crisp, which is excellent. However, the cork stopper is heavily deteriorated and cracked down the neck lip (please see picture), which slightly devalues it to a buyer who wants it functional rather than purely decorative.
