Essay was a Canadian Silver Plate company which is believed to have ceased manufacturing during the 1950’s. Not much is known concerning the company except that the trademark Essay was utilised by Stanley & Aylward Ltd. Jewellers & Silversmiths in Kingston, Toronto, Montreal.

This item is a vintage 1930’s silver plated sugar bowl manufactured by Stanley & Aylward Ltd. under the Essay tradename.

The sugar bowl stands on a mildly graduated trumpet shaped stand and has been designed with fluted sides and two Victorian styled ornate scroll handles attached.

The sugar bowl is stamped Essay Canada EP On Copper Lead Mounts Made in Canada 352.

The item will require some polishing, but is in very good condition.
