Cherry China manufactured high quality fine porcelain wares in Japan and many of these items were generally hand decorated. The firm is believed to have ceased manufacturing.

This item is a fine porcelain demitasse duo manufactured in Japan by Cherry China before Japanese products were expected to be marked “Japan” in 1921 and later “Made in Japan”. The Cherry China mark changed during the 1930’s to become a colourful flower with “Cherry China, Japan”, then “Cherry China, Made in Japan” and after 1945 “Cherry China, Made in Occupied Japan”.

We have been unable to locate this particular pattern although the variety of patterns used by Cherry China were generally given a number for each preceded by “CH” – although this particular pattern appears to have also been copied by Foley China, Aynsley and Paragon with small differences.

The cup stands on a short pedestal base and has an ornately scrolled handle while the sides are gently graduated. The saucer has a scalloped rim decorated with embossed motifs and gold scroll which match those on the cup, all set against pastel green background. Colourful floral bouquets are depicted against a white background. Gold trim is prominently visible on both the saucer and cup as well as the cup handle.

Both items are stamped underneath in gold Cherry China.

Both items are in good condition.
