This is a set of antique Johnson Bros porcelain plates. The salad plate in this set, although identical matching pattern, was released under Johnson Bros “Old English” design trade name, which would make its manufacture during the 1920’s while the dinner and bread plates are earlier.
The original of this pattern by Johnson Bros was released directly after 1913 and underwent a change in the 1920’s. A gold band was added to the well and a gold scroll geometric design added in the center while the gold patterning round the verge remained identical as JB 10 and in the later 1920’s as JB13 under Johnson Bros “Old English” range. Both versions from the 1920’s can be viewed on replacements.com and the patterning is often described as Victorian, although it has long been discontinued.
The pattern depicts gold floral and scroll filigree motifs along the verge and gold trim along an embossed feathers edge rim.
Each item is stamped underneath 1W Johnson Bros Made in England. The salad plate also has the addition to the stamp of “Old English”.
Besides some fading of the gold gilt on a side of the salad plate, all three items are in very good condition..
