Depression glass was originally manufactured during the 1920’s – 1930’s in red, yellow, pink, clear, blue, amethyst, green and black. During the 1960’s a variety of companies began producing reproductions of depression glass and these are generally identified by their lack of tiny air bubbles within the glass, a lack of feint lines underneath the item (depression glass rested on beds of straw during the drying process), a complete absence of natural flaws and the patterning although this lovely and uniquely attractive glass bowl has no natural flaws or lines along the base and no tiny air bubbles, its patterning and seam line do mark it as a 1960’s depression glass reproduction, as does the thickness of the glass itself.
The bowl has been decorated with a starburst cut underneath framed in a floral motif with triangular fan patterning around the edge. A faceted linear motif beneath depressed circular designs, decorate the rim and the bowl has been fitted with a pair of facet cut handles.
Not visibly marked or stamped.
The bowl has a very small rough spot on the rim, which although not visible can be felt with a fingertip. It appears to be a craze mark. Aside from this the bowl is in good condition.
