Manufactured by Spode & Copeland, a ceramic tea trio consisting of the tea cup as well as matching saucer and tea plate, each decorated with the popular Chinese Rose pattern displaying colourful floral variety along with swag along the rims and olive green trim. The rims of all three items are mildly scalloped. The tea cup was probably not manufactured in the 1930’s as the tea plate and saucer were, but is probably a later version.

The Chinese Rose pattern is a variety of an earlier pattern by Spode in 1816 which was known as the India pattern. The pattern was also called Rock Garden at a later stage but in 1931, the most well-known version of the design was devised by Spode and became an international bestseller as Chinese Rose. At least 11 versions of the pattern are recorded in the Spode archives and the one on the ivory coloured groundlay was discontinued in 1962.

The version of the Chinese Rose pattern is hand coloured on the tea plate and saucer.

The tea plate and saucer are stamped underneath Copeland Spode England RD NO 629599 Chinese Rose. The tea cup is stamped Spode England 2/9253J Chinese Rose from Spode design C. 1815.

The saucer has a hairline (please see picture) on the rim. The tea plate and tea cup have age related crazing and slight discolouration . This trio would probably be more suitable for display than use.
