The Century range and trade name was released by J&G Meakin in 1912 and continued with a variety of floral patterns through to 1963 when the trade name range was eventually discontinued. The Century name is often mistaken as the pattern name, when in fact the pattern title is seldom stamped on ware manufactured by J&G Meakin.
This item is an antique tea pot manufactured by J&G Meakin in the Gainsborough shape and beautifully decorated in Meakin’s Pilgrim pattern, which depicts a floral variety patterned across the sides as well as on the domed lid. The tea pot has a convenient shortened spout, which focuses attention on the tea pot and its patterning as well as a standard scroll handle lifted above the rim. The finial is in a beautiful fan/wave shape and quite unique.
This particular pattern resembled the Indian rose and was popular at the time. It was released after 1912 and continued into the 1930’s under the Century name. J&G Meakin was founded in 1851. In 1968 J&G Meakin joined with Midwinter and in 1970 they were taken over by the Wedgwood group.
The tea pot is stamped underneath Century Permanent Colours, Regd SOL 391413 J&G Meakin England.
Besides age related crazing and discolouration, the tea pot and lid are in very good condition, with no visible damages.
