The Century range and trade name was released by J&G Meakin in 1912 and continued with a variety of floral patterns through to 1963 when the trade name range was eventually discontinued. The Century name is often mistaken as the pattern name, when in fact the pattern title is seldom stamped on ware manufactured by J&G Meakin.
This item is an antique set of 4 side plates manufactured by J&G Meakin in the Gainsborough shape and lavishly decorated in Meakin’s Pilgrim pattern, which depicts a floral variety patterned across the sides. This particular pattern resembled the Indian rose and was popular at the time. It was released after 1912 and continued into the 1930’s under the Century name. J&G Meakin was founded in 1851. In 1968 J&G Meakin joined with Midwinter and in 1970 they were taken over by the Wedgwood group.
The side plates are stamped underneath Century Permanent Colours, Regd SOL 391413 J&G Meakin England.
