The Chesterfield area of England has an abundance of clay which bled to the establishment of a number of potteries with James Pearsons & Co becoming established among them in 1810 with the purchase of Whittington Pottery. The firm quickly became the largest and most successful producer in the area with the clay being best suited for brownware and stoneware, kitchen pots, jugs, bottles, dishes and jars. The firm became an Ltd in 1922 but closed permanently in the early 1990’s.

This item is a brownware open salt pot, glazed and manufactured by Pearsons of Chesterfield.

Although the stamp underneath is age faded, it is stamped Pearsons Chesterfield Made in England.

The salt pot is in very good vintage condition.
