The firm was established in 1790 by Ralph Bourne & William Baker as Bourne & Baker. In 1833 the partnership was dissolved and William Baker continued the business in 1839 as William Baker & Co and had become the most important business in Fenton by 1850. The company is believed to have closed in 1932. This is a complete set of 6 ceramic dessert bowls manufactured by Baker & Co, Fenton, between 1930 and 1932 and each item is marked underneath with the last stamp used by the firm. The set was manufactured as part of Baker’s Art Moderne range, which would originally have continued but ended in 1932 when the company is believed to have closed. Each bowl is beautifully decorated with a different full colour fruit bouquet against a pearl / cream background and with mildly fluted verge highlighted in a sapphire blue band along with black trim.
Each item is stamped underneath W Baker & Co, England, Art Moderne.
Three of the bowls have mild age related crazing within, but aside from this all the bowls are in very good condition with no other visible damages.
