Charles Waine & Thomas Bates established the china manufacturer W&B in Longton in 1885. In 1891 Thomas Bates left the partnership and the business was continued by Charles Waine as CW until 1913 when Ltd was added. In 1920 Charles Waine began to only use the trade name English China but the firm closed shortly thereafter. This item is a fine porcelain tea plate manufactured by Charles Waine & Thomas Bates, Longton, between 1885 – 1891, when the firm used the W&B mark. The item is decorated in a beaded gold patterning along the rim and a colourful floral variety with butterflies.

Some fading of the gold beaded pattern as well as the floral décor has occurred with age, aside from this, the tea plate is in good condition, considering the age of this item.
