This item was manufactured during the 1950’s – 1960’s with a glass inner and hinged lid fitted with a white acrylic rubberised stopper underneath. The lid is hinged and has a thumb finial attached, while the handle attached to the side of the jug itself is an art deco style. During the 1960’s Alfi Manufactured and released an identical thermal jug in a chromed version, before the item was discontinued.
Alfi was originally established in 1914 as Aluminiumwarenfabrik Fischbach (Alfi) and founded by Carl and wife Sophie Zitzmann. The firm first began exporting in the late 1920’s. During the second world war the factory was dismantled by Soviet troops but the plant was quickly rebuilt by staff in 1943-1944. In 1947 the firm was nationalised under the German Democratic Republic (GDR). In 1948 Carl Zitzmann together with his wife and some staff relocated to Wertheim and opened a new Alfi production completed by 1949. In 1986 Alfi became part of WMF and continues to manufacture today as part of the WMF Group.
The item is marked underneath the thumb finial Alfi.
The base underneath has been repaired (please see picture). This does not affect the items ability to hold liquids as they are contained within the glass inner. Aside from the base, the item is in very good functional condition.
