Manufactured by Spode & Copelands during the 1930’s, this tea plate is decorated with the very popular “Chinese Rose” pattern, which display colourful floral variety along with swag along the rim and olive green trim. The rim of the tea plate is mildly scalloped.
The Chinese Rose pattern is a variety of an earlier pattern by Spode in 1816, which was known as the India pattern. The pattern was also called Rock Garden at a later stage but in 1931, the most well-known version of the design was devised by Spode and became an international bestseller as Chinese Rose. At least 11 versions of the pattern are recorded in the Spode archives and the one on the ivory coloured groundlay was discontinued in 1962. This version of the Chinese Rose pattern is hand coloured.
