This item is a delightful vintage silver plated caviar / butter dish with a convenient roll / dome top, fitted with a side thumb ball finial to open or close. The item stands steadily on three firmly secured and ornately designed paw feet. The roll top is fitted with a pair of metal pins and functions smoothly and perfectly. A gentle hammered metal pattern has been set within a band which decorates the dome while the rim has a beaded motif in repousse craft.
This item is silver plated brass.
These items were often referred to as butter or caviar domes depending entirely on the purpose of their use at the table.
The item is stamped underneath SP on B England.
The item requires a polish and has some plate loss on the dome revealing a brass tint, also the original glass inner liner which should be present is no longer with the item, but can be replaced with any other suitable glass bowl of the same size. The dish also has some spots on the bottom inside.
