The firm was established by Herbert Joseph Colclough in 1897 and moved to the Vale Works in 1907. In 1913 King George V and Queen Mary visited the firm and it received a Royal licence and became Royal Vale. In 1937 the firm of Thomas Morris and the Osborne China Co. joined that of H.J. Colclough and it became Colclough China Ltd, which was acquired by Booths Ltd in 1944. In 1953 the Lawley Group (owners of Ridgway and Adderley Co) acquired the firm and in 1955 was officially named Ridgway Potteries Ltd.

The item is a fine bone china saucer manufactured under the Royal Vale trade name between 1913 and 1953. The saucer has been decorated with pattern 6076 of Royal Vale which displays four gold circles within the well of the saucer and gold trim on the scalloped rim.

Stamped underneath Royal Vale Bone China Made in England.

Besides fading of the gold trim on the rim, the saucer is in good usable condition with no damages noted and can be combined with any white and gold vintage tea cup.
