Open salt cellars were used at the table until the start of WW2 when they were permanently replaced by salt shakers and were often regarded as a status symbol within the homes of the period.
This item is an open silver plated salt cellar, which would have been manufactured before 1939. The item is sturdily manufactured and designed with an embossed rope motif along the rim as well as fitted with three paw feet attached by means of an ornate plume design.
Together with this salt cellar comes a silver plated salt spoon which is handle stamped with an Italian silver plate mark (Argentato)
The salt cellar is not marked or stamped. The salt spoon is handle-stamped ARG 1000.
Besides requiring a good polishing, the items are in perfect condition.
