A rare antique silver plated stand with scalloped rim and four ornate claw feet attached underneath. The item has a double strand scroll handle with ball motif and a natural circular hole in the centre of the base plate for the addition of a bowl. Each of the four corners of the base plate have been decorated in an etched fern / leaf pattern. Although this red acrylic bowl is not original to the item (which surely would have been glass or crystal), it fits nicely into the hole. The bowl has a scalloped rim and fluted sides.
The plate is stamped FA GH & Co S, which is widely believed to be an early mark of Frederick Asman, Sheffield. Frederick Asman began manufacturing as a single entity in 1905 in Sheffield and ceased all manufacturing completely in 1940. Frederick Asman is believed to have been in a partnership prior to this time, also based in Sheffield.
The stand is stamped 927, F A GH & Co.S, Sheffield, EPNS
Although the stand has lost almost all plating due to age, it is still beautiful and has no other damages. Although the bowl is not original to the item it is in perfect condition and fits well in the plate hole.
