An extremely rare antique silver plated sugar tongs manufactured by McPherson Brothers, Glasgow. The tongs are marked with the British Registry Mark which was used from 1867 until 1883 with a number above the diamond shaped mark. The McPherson Brothers began manufacturing in Glasgow in 1881 which would place the date of manufacture of this item between 1881 – 1883. George McPherson was a registered silversmith who manufactured both silver and silver plate. The firm closed in the 1940’s. The item has the rare Venetian handle design.
The tongs are marked with the registration diamond followed by McPherson Brothers Glasgow.
The item is in very good second hand condition.
