Chanticleer Ware (French Styled) was one of the trade names used by Simpsons Potters Ltd, Cobridge during the late 1940’s and into the 1950’s. The firm originally began manufacturing as Soho Pottery but was renamed Simpsons Pottery Ltd in 1944, owned by brothers Samuel and Thomas Simpson. In 1971 the firm was purchased by the Pfaltzgraff company of York, USA, but in 2004 the Simpsons Pottery was closed permanently by Pfaltzgraff when their tableware range was discontinued.

This sugar bowl was manufactured by Simpsons under their Chanticleer trade name and decorated in their Belle Fiore patterning, which appears to be more Gouda-like in appearance than the typical British tableware.

The bowl is stamped underneath Belle Fiore, Chanticleer Ware Simpsons (Potters) Ltd Cobridge England.

The sugar bowl has some age related crazing, but is still in good usable condition with no chips.
