The business was established in 1898 as a partnership between Richard Hammersley Plant and his brother Simon Lucas Plant at the Tuscan Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent. In 1914 the brothers had become successful enough to purchase the Tuscan Works outright and became a Ltd. in 1915. In 1966 the business was taken over by Wedgwood and renamed Royal Tuscan. In 2006 Wedgwood closed the firm and discontinued production at the Tuscan Works.
