Alfred Meakin Ltd was established in 1875 and operated from Royal Albert, Victoria and Highgate Potteries in Tunstall. In 1930 Newfield Potteries was purchased and between 1957 and 1980 the Victoria and Highgate Works were rebuilt and expanded. In 1980 the firm acquired the Alexander Works at Cobridge, which were originally built by Myott in 1902, after merging with Myott in 1976 as Myott-Meakin. It then became part of the Churchill Group in 1991.

The item is a fine porcelain serving platter manufactured by Alfred Meakin during the 1930’s and decorated in Meakin’s Foyers pattern, a rare pattern today not even available at replacements.com. The pattern displays black and orange floral patterning along with tan Rococo scroll motifs. Embossed scroll and gold rimmed handles have been designed at the longitudinal ends and the platter has a gold scalloped rim.

The item is stamped underneath Alfred Meakin England.

A few small parts of the rim are experiencing fading of the gold trim. Aside from this the serving platter is in very good second hand condition with no chips, cracks, crazing or other damages.

Height of handles: 3.4 cm, Height of rim: 3.2 cm, Oval base: 21.4 cm x 13.8 cm, Length: 37 cm, Width 27.2 cm
